Jaywant Joshi

I’m Jaywant Joshi and I work out of my place in Kandivali West. It’s right next to the Raheja Construction site, which can get pretty noisy during the day with all the heavy machinery going. I’m in apartment 604 on the fourth floor. It’s not a traditional office by any means. My living room is basically where I do most of my work, with a desk pushed up against the window so I can see what’s happening outside. I handle a lot of independent professional work, mostly related to accounts and paperwork for local residents and small businesses. People usually call me first and then drop by to leave their documents. It’s a very informal setup. Sometimes my kids are running around in the background or the TV is on in the other room. That’s just the reality of working from home in Mumbai. Space is tight, but I make it work. I’ve been in this building for several years, so most of the security guards and neighbors know me. I don’t have a big team or anything, it’s just me and sometimes a part-time assistant who helps with the filing. It gets busy around tax season, and I end up working late into the night. I prefer this way of working because I don’t have to commute in the local trains every day. It’s a simple, quiet life for the most part, except for the construction noise next door.
