You can find us on the 5th floor of the Rele Smruti building, which is right on SV Road in Malad West. It’s a very busy road in Mumbai, and you can hear the horns honking all day from up here. Being on the 5th floor is nice though, because we are a bit away from the dust. We have a lot of screens and computers running because that is the nature of the stock exchange work. The office layout is a bit old-fashioned, with wooden cabins and some heavy metal cabinets for records. We spend a lot of our time looking at numbers and talking to people on the phone. Sometimes the lift in the building takes forever, so we end up waiting in the lobby for a while. It’s a practical space, not something meant to look impressive. Just a lot of desks, some very old calculators, and stacks of paper everywhere. We usually bring our own lunch boxes and eat together in the small pantry area. It gets quite hot in the afternoons when the sun hits the windows, but we have some curtains to block it out. It’s a solid place to work, even if the commute in Mumbai is a bit of a headache every morning. We just focus on the numbers and keep things moving as they should, year after year, in this same spot.
