Ford India

Out here in Maraimalai Nagar, at S. P. Koil, you’ll find the Ford India site. It’s a massive area and there are always a lot of people moving around, mostly wearing uniforms or safety gear. It’s a big part of the landscape around here. People come from all over the nearby towns to work shifts. It’s not like a small neighborhood shop where everyone knows your name, but you get to know the people on your specific line or in your section pretty well. The humidity in Maraimalai Nagar can be something else, but we just get on with it. There’s a lot of machinery and the sound of tools and engines is pretty constant throughout the day. We deal with cars, obviously, but on the ground level, it’s more about the individual parts and making sure everything fits where it’s supposed to. The cafeteria is where most of the socializing happens during lunch breaks. It’s a very structured environment because it has to be when you’re dealing with this much metal and technology. Even though it’s a global name, for those of us working at S. P. Koil, it’s just our daily job. We clock in, do the work, and then head back out to the traffic. It’s a busy hub that keeps a lot of families in this part of the state going.
