You can find me working as an engineer over in Dadar East, specifically on the fourth floor of the Jenabai Building. It’s an old building on Dadasahaib Alke Road, and it has a lot of character, even if the stairs are a bit steep to climb every day. Mumbai’s a busy place, and Dadar is right in the middle of all that chaos. My office is small and filled with blueprints and various pieces of equipment I’ve gathered over the years. I spend a lot of time looking out the window at the traffic below while I think through different engineering problems. It’s not a very quiet place, but the energy of the city keeps me moving. Most of the people who come to see me are locals or small business owners from around the neighborhood. We sit around my desk and talk about their projects over tea that I get from the stall downstairs. I don’t use fancy software for everything; sometimes a pencil and a ruler are still the best tools for the job. The building’s a bit hard to find if you aren’t looking for it, but once you see the sign for Dadasahaib Alke Road, you’re pretty close. I’ve been in this spot for quite a while now and I don’t see myself moving anytime soon. It’s a practical space for a practical kind of job. No frills, just engineering work, and keeping things moving along as best as I can while the city rushes past.
