Our office is tucked away on the ground floor of Dadabhai Chawl, right there on Babasaheb Ambedkar Road. If you know Parel, you know how crowded it gets, especially with the Premier Cinema just a short walk away. It’s a bit of an old building, number 273, but it works for what we need. We handle agro foods, which means there’s always something coming in or going out. Dealing with the traffic on the main road is probably our biggest headache every morning. Inside the chawl, it’s a different world from the shiny towers you see popping up around Mumbai. We’ve got a small team, mostly people who live nearby and don't mind the tight space. It gets loud with the street noise and the neighbors, but you get used to it after a week. We spend a lot of time on the phone or checking the stocks we’ve got stored in the back. It isn't a glamorous job by any means. There’s a lot of paperwork and making sure the food items are stored properly despite the humidity. Sometimes the electricity acts up, or the monsoon makes the ground floor a bit damp, but we just keep going. People often miss our entrance because it’s just another door in the row, but we’ve been here long enough that the local tea stall knows exactly where to bring the chai. It’s just a basic operation in the heart of the busy city.
