Our little shop is tucked away at number 24 inside the Nutan Chemicals Industries area on Walbhat Road. It’s not the easiest place to find. You really have to be looking for it, especially with all the industrial activity around Goregaon East. We deal with food and spices. This makes for some pretty strong smells in the office sometimes, but we’ve grown used to it over the years. It’s mostly just a few of us here. We handle the daily orders and make sure the spice mixes are packed up properly. The building itself is older. Walbhat Road can get really crowded with trucks during the day. This makes getting things in and out a bit of a headache for our drivers. We don’t really have a big fancy office or a showroom. It’s just a practical space where we can get the work done without too much fuss. Most mornings start with checking the stock. We see what needs to go out to the local markets. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy bags and weighing things out on the old scales. We chose the name Rare Bird because it sounded different, though we are mostly just regular people working in a warehouse. There is always a layer of dust from the road. The noise from the nearby factories never really stops, but it’s a good spot for a business like ours to keep things moving. We just take it one day at a time here in Goregaon and try to keep the orders moving out the door.
