Rural Engineer Service

We are located out in Rampur, over in Uttar Pradesh. The office is pretty basic. We’ve been in this spot for quite a while now. It’s a government service type of setup, so things move at their own pace here. We deal with engineering stuff for the rural areas around Rampur. It’s a lot of field work and site visits. The office is usually full of maps and old files that have been sitting there for years. We don't have fancy air conditioning in every room, so it gets pretty warm in the summer months. Most of us are local people who grew up around here. We know the roads and the villages pretty well. It’s not a flashy job. We spend a lot of time on our bikes or in old jeeps going out to look at projects. Sometimes the paperwork takes forever and people get frustrated, but we try to keep things going. We have a small canteen nearby where we get our lunch. It’s a simple life. We aren't here to make some big corporate statement. We just do the engineering work that needs to be done for the district. It’s about the local roads and buildings more than anything else. We just take it one day at a time. We’ve seen the seasons change many times from these windows, and the work never really stops being important.
