Raj Scrap

We are located in Word 7 of the Mohammadi Mohalla area. It's on the road in Polan Bazar, very close to the railway station. Being near the station means there is a constant hum of trains and people rushing by. Our place is full of scrap. We have piles of metal, old parts, and all sorts of things people don't want anymore. It’s a messy job and our clothes are never clean for long. We spend hours sorting through what comes in, trying to separate the copper from the iron. It’s hard work on the hands. The shop itself is just a basic space where we weigh things and keep the books. Sometimes the yard gets so full we can barely move around. We don't have any fancy equipment, just some scales and our own strength. People from the Mohalla know us well and often drop off things they found. It’s a practical business, nothing glamorous about it. We deal with what others throw away. Sometimes we find something interesting in the piles, but mostly it is just work. The sun gets hot in the afternoon and we usually take a break under the small awning with a cup of water. It’s just the way life is here at the scrap yard near the tracks. We keep at it every day and try to keep the place organized as best we can.
