Vishal Ice Factory

Vishal Ice Factory is located on Dhur Kot Road over in Nihal Singh Wala. It’s a loud place because of the compressors and the water pumps running all the time. We don’t sell small cones or cups here; we mostly deal with big blocks of ice. It’s heavy work, moving those things around and loading them onto the back of trucks. We start very early in the morning, sometimes before the sun is even up, to get the batches frozen solid. The floors are almost always wet, so we have to wear those heavy rubber boots all day. It’s not a glamorous job, but shops and vendors around here need the ice to keep their own stuff cold. We have been on this road for quite some time, and the building is showing its age a bit, but the machinery still does what it is supposed to do. There is always a lot of clanking and the smell of the cooling system. We don’t have an office staff or anything like that. If someone needs ice, they just come to the gate and talk to whoever is working the floor. It’s a very straightforward way to earn a living. We just focus on making sure the ice is clear and hard so it doesn't melt too fast for the people buying it. It is hard work and cold water every single day of the week.
