Goyal Rice & General Mills

Goyal Rice & General Mills is located on Zira Road. It is a fairly large site because we handle more than just rice sometimes. The yard is usually quite busy with different kinds of loads coming in. Zira Road is a major way through here, so we see a lot of people passing by. The building is a big concrete structure that stays surprisingly cool in the summer, which is a blessing when the sun is beating down on the tin roofs. We have a few different machines for various tasks, and keeping them all maintained is a full-time job. There is always a belt that needs tightening or a motor that needs oil. The staff here is a mix of young guys and some older men who have been in the milling business since they were kids. We talk about the weather a lot because it dictates everything we do. If it’s too humid, the grain doesn't dry right. If it’s too windy, the dust goes everywhere. We don't have any fancy brochures or big promises to make. We just open up in the morning, do the milling, and close up when the work is finished. It is a practical life, and we are fine with that. Most of our neighbors on Zira Road are doing the same thing, just trying to make a living.
