Gobind Rice Mill

We spend most of our days here on Kokri Kalan Road at Gobind Rice Mill. It gets pretty loud once the machines start running in the morning. Usually, we are up before the sun to get everything ready. There is always a lot of dust in the air when the rice comes in from the fields. It’s just how things are in this part of the world. We have been here for a while now. Some of the guys working here have been with us since the beginning. We don't really have a fancy office or anything like that. Just a small room where we keep the books and sit down for tea when there is a break. Sometimes the trucks get backed up on the road outside. People stop by to ask about prices or just to see how the harvest is looking this year. It's a lot of physical work, lifting bags and making sure the dryers are at the right temperature. My hands are always rough from handling the grain. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We just run the mill and try to keep things moving. The roof leaks a little when it rains hard, but we manage. You can hear the sound of the Kokri Kalan Road traffic all day long. It becomes a sort of background noise after a few years. We just keep our heads down and do what needs doing until the sun goes down. It is a long day.
