G. M. Rice & General Mills

The mill is right there on Nihal Singh Wala Road. It’s been sitting in the same spot for quite a few years now. We handle a lot of different things, mostly rice but other general milling too. It gets real busy when the harvest starts coming in. You can hear the machines running from all the way down the street. It’s a lot of work keeping everything moving, especially when the weather doesn't want to cooperate. We don’t have any fancy signs or a big office. Just the shed where the grain goes and the area where we stack the bags. Most of the people who come here are neighbors or folks from just a few miles away. We know how they like things done. My hands are usually covered in dust by the time the sun goes down. It’s not a clean job, but it’s an honest one. We don’t really do any advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend the whole afternoon with a wrench, trying to get things started again. That is just how it goes with this kind of work. We try to be fair and get everyone through as quick as possible. There isn’t much to it besides that. Just a local mill on the road, doing what we have always done for the community. We don't have time for fluff, just the grain and the work.
