Living and working in Natwa near the Putlighar post office means things move at their own speed. Here at Dolby Handicrafts, we mostly spend our mornings sorting through materials and seeing what needs to be finished. It’s a lot of manual labor, to be honest. Our hands are usually stained with something or other by lunchtime. The workshop isn't anything special to look at, just a place with enough light to see what we are doing. We make things one at a time. Sometimes a batch takes longer because the weather is damp or someone stayed home sick. We don’t have a big corporate structure or managers in suits. It’s just us and the tools. My neighbor helps out with the packing sometimes when we have a lot to send out. The post office is close, which is handy for shipping. Most days are just about getting the work done and making sure we don't run out of supplies. It's noisy sometimes with all the cutting and hammering going on, but you get used to it. We aren't trying to change the world or anything, just making crafts that people might find useful or nice to have in their homes. It’s hard work and it makes your back ache, but it feels okay at the end of the day. We just keep at it because it’s what we know how to do.
