We have been here in Kupwad for quite some time now. The MIDC area is always busy with trucks coming and going, especially early in the morning. If you come to Plot No. C-60, you will see the stacks of cement pipes lined up along the fence. It gets very dusty out here, especially in the afternoons when the wind picks up. My father started this business back when there were only a few other sheds around. Now the whole street is full of different factories. We make different sizes for drainage and irrigation mostly. People from all over Sangli district come by when they are building something new or fixing a field. The machinery makes a lot of noise during the day, so we have to shout to be heard. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside on the plastic chairs. It is not fancy at all, just a yard full of concrete. We have a few guys who have worked here for ten years now. They know exactly how the mix should feel just by looking at it. We load the trucks by hand or with the small crane when it is working. It is hard work and your clothes are always white by the end of the shift. The rain can be a problem for the drying process, so we are always checking the sky.
