Down here at 306, Manzoor Nagar, life moves at its own pace. Rafique Handicraft is tucked away in the Zaidi Farm area, which is a place most locals know well. We aren't a big corporation with many branches. It is just a family-run operation where we spend our days working with our hands. The workshop isn't very large, and it often feels a bit cramped when we have a lot of orders to finish. We started this because we knew how to make things and wanted to stay close to home. You won't find any slick salesmen here. Usually, it's just one of us sitting on a stool, working on a piece while the radio plays in the background. The neighborhood is quiet enough, though the tea stall nearby gets crowded in the evenings. We do our own sanding and finishing right here on the floor. Sometimes the dust gets everywhere, and we have to stop and sweep just to see the floor again. We don't have a mission statement or anything like that. We just want to finish the work we have for the day so we can go home to our families. If someone stops by, we show them what we're working on. It’s a simple way to earn a living. We have been in this same spot for a long time, and the neighbors have grown used to the sounds of our tools and the smell of the materials.
