People around Subhash Nagar know where to find us. We are right by the Shubhash Nagar Chowk in Meerut. It is a busy spot, especially in the evenings when everyone is coming back from work and wants to pick up something for dinner. Our shop isn't very large, but we try to keep a bit of everything on the shelves. You will find stacks of biscuits next to the notebooks and pens. Sometimes the dust from the road gets inside and we have to spend half the morning just cleaning the counters. It is just the way things are here. We don’t have fancy displays or anything like that. The light inside is a bit dim, and the ceiling fan makes a clicking noise that we have grown used to over the years. My son helps out when he is not at school, mostly moving the heavy crates or helping people find where the lentils are kept. Dealing with change is always a bit of a struggle, as nobody seems to have small coins these days. We just write things down in the register and keep moving. Life in Meerut moves fast, and being at the chowk means you see it all. It is not an easy job standing on your feet all day, but it keeps us busy and part of the community here in the neighborhood. We just do our best to stay stocked up.
