Swarnabhumi Research Agro Biotech Private Limited is based out of Ajra village in Midnapur. We are situated at Manju Maity’s place, right in the Po Champi area. It is a very rural setting, which makes sense for the kind of agro-biotech work we do. You see a lot of green when you look out the window, and there is usually a breeze coming off the fields. Our work involves a lot of research, but we do it in a very practical, hands-on way. We aren't in some high-tech lab in the middle of a city; we are right here where the plants grow. It gets very quiet at night, which is a nice change from the daytime when there’s a lot of movement in the village. We spend a lot of time testing things and writing down our notes in notebooks. The office is simple, with just the basic furniture and some storage for our samples. We’ve been part of this community for a while, and people know where to find us if they have questions about their crops. It is not a fast-paced life, but it is constant. We have to be patient because nature doesn't move as fast as a computer. Every season brings something different to deal with. We just keep our heads down and focus on the science and the soil, making sure we stay true to the work. It takes time, but we don't mind the wait. The villagers often walk past our windows on their way to the market. We keep a jug of water on the table.
