Agarwal Flour Mills

Agarwal Flour Mills is located at 106 Station Road in Pratapgarh. Being so close to the railway station means things are always hectic around the mill. There is a constant background noise of trains whistling and people shouting as they move through the station area. The mill itself has been here for many years. If you look at the windows, you can usually see a thin layer of flour dust that settles on everything by the end of the day. It is a large, open space because the grinding machinery takes up the bulk of the floor. We have the main area for processing the grain and then a separate section where we fill and stitch the bags. It gets very loud when the machines are all running at once, so we have to raise our voices quite a bit to talk to each other. We work closely with the local farmers who bring their grain to us by the cartload. The office part of the mill is just a small, cramped corner with a heavy wooden desk and some old chairs that have been around forever. We still keep most of our records in those thick, bound books instead of relying only on computers. It is a very traditional way of doing things, but it has worked for us for a long time. People in Pratapgarh just know to come to Station Road when they need flour. It is a dusty and busy life, but it is what we have always done. The smell of fresh grain is always there.
