Mift Design Institute

You can find us right across from the KMC Hospital in Attavar. Mift Design Institute is tucked inside the Shanker Emporium building. It’s a pretty busy part of Mangalore with a lot of traffic and people passing by on Attavar Road every day. We spend most of our time teaching students and working on different design projects that come our way. The classrooms aren't huge, but they fit everyone okay for the lessons. It is not always a quiet place, especially when everyone is busy with their drawings or trying to figure out the software on the computers. Sometimes the machines act up or the internet gets a bit slow, but we just deal with it and keep going. We started this because we wanted a place in Mangalore where people could actually learn the craft without too much fuss. It isn't like those big, polished corporate schools you see in the magazines. It feels more like a working studio or a workshop here. We keep our supplies stacked in the corners and the walls are usually covered in whatever the students are working on that week. Being so close to the hospital means it is always lively outside the windows. We’ve been doing this for a bit now and have seen many people come through. If you are looking for the entrance, just look for the Shanker Emporium sign. We just talk about design and try to help people get better.
