We’re located over in Pada Vinangady. If you walk by, you can usually smell the roasting going on. It’s a steady sound of sorting and shells cracking inside. We spend the day going through bags of raw cashews and making sure the quality is what it should be. The floors are usually covered in a bit of dust from the processing, and we’re constantly moving sacks from one corner to the other. It’s a hands-on kind of job, and most of us have been doing it long enough that we don’t even have to think about the steps anymore. We have some machines to help, but a lot of it is still just people looking at the nuts on a belt. It gets pretty warm near the roasters, so we keep the windows open as much as we can. We don’t have a big marketing team or anything like that. We just focus on the processing and getting the bags ready for the trucks. Sometimes the harvest is good and we’re extra busy, other times it’s a bit slower and we catch up on maintenance. We take our breaks together and talk about whatever is going on in the neighborhood. It’s a simple operation, really. We just come in, do the work, and make sure the cashews are processed correctly before they head out to the markets. It’s just what we do here in Pada Vinangady.
