Atrash General Store

If you're walking down Kadri Road in Bejal, you'll see us at 615-21-2. Atrash General Store is a small place. We sell the usual things people run out of at home. Soap, matches, snacks, and some basic household items. It’s a bit dark inside because the windows are small, but we know where everything is kept. I’ve been running this place for years. It’s mostly just me here, though sometimes a nephew comes to help out on the weekends. The shelves are wooden and a bit old now. We don't have a computer system, just a notebook for keeping track of things. People from the nearby houses come in to chat as much as they do to shop. It makes the day go faster. Sometimes I forget to order something and have to tell people to come back next week. They don't seem to mind too much. It’s a quiet life in Bejal. The street isn't too busy except in the evenings. We just keep the door open and wait for whoever needs something. It's not a big operation, but it keeps us busy enough. The ceiling fan wobbles a bit on high speed, so I mostly keep it on low. It’s enough to move the air around. I usually sit on the stool near the door so I can see who is coming.
