In Mandla, things move a bit slower, and that’s where Mandlas Progressive Farmer Producer Company Limited comes in. We are based over in Vpo Ahamadpur Maharajpur, and Shyam Kumar Barmaiya is usually the one keeping track of things for us. Even though we have "Progressive" in our name, we are still just local farmers who have been doing this for generations. We are located in the 481661 area of Madhya Pradesh. The soil here is what we know best, and we spend most of our time out there in it. We formed this group because we wanted to see if we could get a better deal on things like fertilizers and better seeds by buying in a big lot. It’s been a bit of a learning curve for all of us. We aren't corporate people, just villagers who want to make sure our work pays off at the end of the year. There’s a lot of walking and a lot of talking involved in what we do. We meet up when we can to share ideas or just complain about the weather, which never seems to do what it’s supposed to. It’s a very simple setup, nothing fancy or polished. We are just trying to make sure that the people in Mandla who grow the food actually get to keep some of the money for themselves and their families.
