Sachdeva College is located near the Paddal area in Mandi town. If you know Mandi, you know that the Paddal ground is a major landmark, so we are pretty easy to find. Being up here in the hills means we get some beautiful views, but it also means it gets really cold in the winter months. We don’t have fancy central heating, so everyone just wears their thickest sweaters and jackets to class. The college building is tucked away a bit, and it’s a steep walk for some who are coming from the lower parts of town. We have a mix of students, some from the town itself and many others who come in from the nearby mountain villages. The classrooms are basic and the desks have seen many years of use, with names carved into them by students from long ago. We don’t have a big cafeteria, so most people just bring their own lunch or grab something from the small shops nearby. Our day usually starts early and ends before the sun goes down too far, especially when the weather looks like it might turn bad. It’s a very practical, no-nonsense environment. We focus on the textbooks and the lectures, and we try to help the students get through their courses without any unnecessary distractions. It’s just a regular part of life here in Mandi for those of us who work and study at the college. We keep things simple and just focus on the classes.
