Purwar Watch Co is right there at Udal Chowk. It is a small shop, but we have been at this location for a long time. You can hear the sound of a hundred different clocks ticking if you stand still for a second, which is something you eventually stop noticing after working here all day. The windows are usually a bit smudged because people lean in to look at the watches on display. We have a small workbench in the back where the light is better for looking at the tiny gears and springs. Udal Chowk is a busy spot, so there is always a lot of dust and noise coming in from the street. We spend most of our time hunched over, wearing those magnifying glasses on our eyes. It is slow work and you need a steady hand. People bring in watches that haven't worked in years, and we see what we can do. Some are just old batteries, but others are more complicated. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know we are here at the chowk. We have a few wooden stools for customers to sit on while they wait for a quick fix. It is a quiet kind of life, mostly just focusing on the small things. We close up when the market starts to wind down in the evening. It’s just us and the watches.
