Mavodiya Masala

Our place is out in Village Bopal, near the Botab Stand. If you're coming from Ahmedabad, you have to head towards the Botad post office area in Dascroi. It’s a quiet spot most of the time, though it gets a bit lively near the stand. We work with masalas. It’s something that runs in the family for some of us here. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there. We just wanted to make masala the way we remember it being made when we were younger. We spend a lot of time out here drying things and then grinding them up. You can usually tell where we are because of the scent of cumin and coriander in the air. It’s a humble setup, nothing fancy at all. We have a few machines and some sturdy tables for packing. Sometimes the power goes out, or things get delayed because of the rain, but we just pick up where we left off. We don't use any big words to describe what we do. It’s just grinding spices and putting them into packets. We know the people around Bopal pretty well, and they know us. Most of our day is spent making sure the mix is right and the bags are sealed properly. It’s hard work on the hands, but it’s what we know how to do. We just keep our heads down and stay busy here near the post office.
