Western Ghat Spices

You can find us over at 28/7 in Allinagaram. We are a small team at Western Ghat Spices and we’ve been working out of this spot for a few years. Being where we are, we get a lot of spices from the nearby hills. The whole place usually smells like black pepper or cloves depending on what we are sorting that day. It’s not a high-tech factory with a bunch of computers. It’s a practical space with concrete floors and big fans to keep the air moving. We source our stuff from farmers we’ve known for a long time, so we know where it is coming from. Some seasons are busier than others. When the harvest comes in, we are working late into the night just to get everything dried and bagged up. The rain can be a real problem for us since we have to keep everything dry. We use some basic machines for the cleaning, but we still do a lot of it by hand because machines miss things sometimes. My father did this work before me, and I just took over when he got too old. We don't bother with fancy slogans or missions. We just write the orders in a big ledger and make sure they get to the right person. The warehouse gets quite full during the peak months, making it hard to walk around, but we manage to get by.
