Pechi Masala Pvt. Ltd.

Pechi Masala Pvt. Ltd. is situated at 63, Vadugapatti Road. It’s not a very large operation, just a few of us working in the back to get the spice mixes ready. The road outside is usually busy with tractors and trucks moving through the village. We spend most of our time sorting through dried chilies and coriander seeds. The dust from the peppers can make you sneeze all day if you aren't used to it. We have a couple of grinders that have been with us since we started, and they are pretty noisy. The floors are concrete and we have to wash them down every evening to get the red stains out. It’s hot work, especially in the afternoons when the sun hits the roof. We don't have a fancy office or a receptionist. If someone comes to the door, one of us just wipes our hands and goes out to see what they need. We pack everything into simple bags and stack them on wooden pallets. Sometimes the delivery truck is late and we have to stay late to get everything loaded up. It’s a simple life and the work is repetitive, but it keeps us busy. We mostly deal with local shops and traders who have been buying from us for years. There’s no big secret to what we do, just putting in the hours and making sure the spice is ground right.
