You can find us at 3/117 in the Muthu Complex. We’re right at the Thirunagar 2nd Stop, along the G S T Road. It’s a busy stretch of road, so there’s always the sound of buses and cars zooming past. Our shop is small and practical. We’ve got a couple of key-cutting machines that have been with us for a long time, and they make a very specific whirring noise that we’ve grown used to. The walls are covered in boards with hundreds of different key blanks hanging on hooks. It’s a bit of a metal forest in here. We spend our day taking old, worn-out keys and making copies that actually work. It’s a lot of fine metal shavings on the floor, which we have to sweep up a few times a day. We don’t have a fancy waiting area; most people just stand by the counter for a few minutes while we finish the job. We get all sorts of people coming in—some who lost their house keys and others needing an extra set for a new bike. We’ve seen all kinds of locks and keys over the years. Thirunagar is a good place to be, even with the heat and the dust from the main road. We just keep the machines oiled and the blanks stocked up. It’s simple work, but it keeps us busy from morning until we close up the shutters at night.
