N A Departmental Store

N A Departmental Store is in Sivalangudi Village at house number 63. It is a rural place, so we try to keep a bit of everything because the main town is a bit of a trek for most folks here. We have plastic buckets hanging from the ceiling, stacks of notebooks for the school kids, and all the usual kitchen supplies. It is a bit of a jumble inside, to be honest. We aren't very organized with the way things are laid out, but we manage to find what people need eventually. The floor is just plain concrete, and it gets a lot of red dirt on it from people coming in off the village paths. We sweep it out a few times a day, but the dust always finds its way back in. Working here in Sivalangudi means you get to know everyone's business. People come in to buy a few things and end up staying for ten minutes just to talk about the latest news. It makes the day go by faster. We don't have a computer or any high-tech stuff; we just use a notebook to keep track of what we owe and what is coming in. It works well enough for us. When the power goes out, which happens quite often, we just light a few candles and keep the doors open for the light. It is just the way life is here.
