Murugan Skin Clinic

It’s up here on the second floor of Ratnam Complex. You can usually smell what Kumar Mess is cooking downstairs long before you get to our door. Being at Iyer Bungalow, it stays pretty busy outside. We’ve been in this spot for a while now. Most days it’s just us dealing with whatever skin issues people walk in with. Someone has a rash that won’t go away, or maybe it’s just something they’ve had for years and finally decided to show a doctor. The waiting area is just a few chairs and some old magazines that nobody really looks at because they’re all on their phones. We try to keep the place tidy, but with so many people coming in and out from the street, there’s always a bit of dust. It gets hot in the afternoons when the sun hits the front windows, but we have the fans going. Sometimes the power cuts out for a minute and we just sit there in the quiet until the generator kicks in. It isn't a fancy place, just a regular clinic where we do our work. We see a lot of the same faces from the neighborhood. You get used to the noise of the traffic down below on the main road. Most of the time, we’re just busy filing papers or calling the next person in. It’s a job like any other, really. We just keep the doors open and do what needs to be done for whoever walks in.
