Ksk Sanmuga Store

Ksk Sanmuga Store is found on Sugar Mill Road, right off the Madurai Main Road in Alanganallur. People around here call this area Kettukadai. Our shop is close to where the big sugar mill is, so we see a lot of workers during their shift changes. We sell all sorts of provisions and general items that families need. The shop is painted a simple blue color, though it has faded over the years. We have stacks of gunny bags filled with rice sitting on the floor. It’s a bit of a climb to reach the top shelves, so we keep a small wooden ladder handy. The air smells like jaggery sometimes because of the mill nearby. We open up quite early in the morning before the sun gets too hot. Most of our business happens in the early hours or late in the evening. During the middle of the day, it gets very quiet and we usually take a short nap or listen to the radio. We don’t have a website or any of that modern stuff. If you need something, you just come and ask us. We try to keep the staples in stock so nobody has to travel all the way to the city center. It is just a plain, hardworking shop. Sometimes the neighborhood dogs sleep in the shade of our front awning.
