We are located at 17 Ss Puram, which is right near the old bus stand on 3rd Street. You can usually smell the spices before you even see the door. Jaya Spices has been in this neighborhood for a long time. The old bus stand is a good landmark, even if the buses don't stop exactly there like they used to. 3rd Street is narrow, so it gets a bit crowded with people walking and bikes trying to squeeze through. Our shop is simple. We have bags and jars everywhere. It's not a supermarket style at all. It's more of a traditional place where things are kept in bulk. We spend our days weighing things out and talking to the regulars who come in. Some people have been buying from us since we first opened. We don't have a fancy website or anything. We just open the shutters in the morning and close them at night. It's dusty work, and the smell of pepper and cumin stays on your clothes even after you go home. My hands always feel a bit tingly from handling the chilies. It’s a good life, though. We like being part of the SS Puram area. It feels like home to us. If you’re looking for 3rd Street, just ask anyone near the old stand. They will point you right to No. 17. It's a busy little corner of the world.
