We run the brick kiln out of Ajaz Nagar Ganj over in Simri Bhaktiarpur. The office part is basically at Dinesh Kumar’s house. It’s a family-run sort of thing. In this part of Saharsa, everybody knows everyone, so we don't really do much in the way of formal business stuff. We just make the bricks and sell them to people building walls or houses nearby. The work depends a lot on the weather. If it’s too wet, we can’t mold anything, so we just wait. We’ve got a bunch of workers who have been with us for years. They know the rhythm of the kiln. It gets hot and smoky, but that’s the job. We aren't some big industrial conglomerate. We're just a local outfit trying to make ends meet. Sometimes people come by to complain about the price of coal or the delivery timing, and we just sit and talk it out over some tea. It’s more personal that way. We keep our records in big ledgers and try to stay organized, though it’s hard when you’re covered in dust half the time. Most of our bricks end up in the small houses being built around the 852127 area. It’s good to see the stuff we make actually being used for something real. We just keep going, day after day, one batch at a time, making sure the kiln stays hot enough for the next load.
