We are located right near the railway station. In this district, everyone knows the station area is the hub of everything. Being so close to the tracks means we hear the trains going by all day long. You get used to the vibration after a while. Our yard is just a short walk from the main platform. We’ve been supplying bricks to the local builders around here for quite some time. It’s a convenient spot because it’s easy to give directions. "Just head toward the station," we tell people. The ground is always a bit dark from the soot and the dust. We keep the bricks stacked in high piles. Sometimes it feels like we’re just moving heavy squares from one side of the lot to the other all day. It’s tiring work, especially in the summer heat. We don't have a fancy office building, just a small shed where we keep the ledger and some chairs for when people come to pay. We aren't interested in being a big corporation. We just want to get the orders filled and the trucks sent out. Most of our customers are neighbors or people from the next town over. We keep it honest and plain. If the bricks are good, people come back. That's how we've always looked at it. It keeps us busy and keeps the yard moving. We don't mind the noise from the trains anymore; it's just part of our day.
