Super Spices & Foods

Amrit Singh Road is always full of life and noise. Super Spices & Foods is right in the middle of it all. If you walk down the road, you can usually smell us before you see us. The scent of ground turmeric and chili is everywhere. It’s a small shop, but we pack a lot into it. We have bags of raw spices stacked up to the ceiling in the back. The front of the shop is where we serve the customers who come in. It’s usually a bit dusty because of the grinding machines. We have to wear aprons all day or our clothes would be ruined. It’s not a clean, corporate environment. It’s a working spice shop. My hands are usually stained a bit yellow from the spices. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know the business well. We spend our days weighing out portions and sealing bags. It’s repetitive work, but there is something nice about the rhythm of it. People from the neighborhood have been coming to us for a long time. They don't expect anything fancy, just the same spices they’ve always used. We don't do much advertising. The smell of the shop on Amrit Singh Road does that for us. We just focus on keeping the machines running and the bags filled. It’s a busy, spice-filled life, and we are quite used to it by now. We just take it one bag at a time and keep going.
