M.K.Footwear is situated at House No. 1521/2, Block 14, which is near Amar Pura in the Islam Ganj area of Ludhiana. This is a very old and crowded part of the city. There are narrow lanes and lots of people everywhere you look. Our place is basically a house that we use for our footwear business. In Ludhiana, many businesses start out like this, right in the heart of the community. We deal with all kinds of shoes and sandals. The rooms are usually filled with boxes stacked up to the ceiling. It’s a bit of a maze inside sometimes. We spend our days checking the quality of the shoes and packing orders to be sent out. Being in Islam Ganj means we are close to other small manufacturers and suppliers. There is a lot of noise from the streets, with rickshaws and vendors passing by all the time. We don't have a fancy store window. Most of our work is done behind the scenes, making sure we have enough stock for our customers. The Punjab weather can be tough, very hot in the summer and cold in the winter, but we just keep working through it. It’s a family-style operation where everyone knows each other. We’ve been in Block 14 for years. It’s not a polished corporate office, just a real place where work happens every day. It gets tiring but we enjoy being right in the middle of the local market action.
