Manjit Ice Cream

If you go down to Bharat Nagar in Ludhiana, you will find our small place, Manjit Ice Cream. It’s not a big shop with bright neon signs, just a simple spot where we keep the freezers running. During the summer, it gets incredibly hot here, and that is when we are the busiest. You can hear the hum of the cooling units all day and night. We spend a lot of time just making sure everything stays frozen because the electricity can be a bit unreliable in this part of town. The floor is usually a bit sticky because kids are always dropping things, but we try our best to mop it up when we get a chance. Families come by in the evenings after dinner to walk around the neighborhood and grab something cold. We know most of the kids around here and have watched them grow up over the years. We don't have a lot of fancy furniture, just a few plastic chairs out front. Sometimes we run out of the popular flavors and people get a bit disappointed, but that is just how it goes. We don't try to be anything we are not. We just keep the lids on tight and wait for the sun to go down so the air cools off a bit. It’s a decent way to spend the day, even if our hands are always cold.
