Lakhwinder Gupta Mehandi Art is located over by the Jalandhar Bye Pass in Ludhiana. We are specifically situated near the Kids Market in Sarbha Nagar. Mehandi is what we do, day in and day out. It’s a craft that takes a lot of sitting still and having a steady hand. The shop area in the 141008 zone is usually full of energy because of the nearby market. We have cones of henna ready to go at all times. People come to us when there is a wedding or a festival happening. Sometimes it’s just a single person wanting a small design on their palm. Other times, it's a whole group of cousins laughing and talking at once. It gets pretty loud then. We don't have a big staff. It's just a few of us who have been doing this for years. The Jalandhar Bye Pass area always has a lot of dust and noise from the traffic, but we stay focused on the patterns. Our stools aren't the most comfortable, but they work for what we need. We use traditional recipes for the henna paste so it stains well. Every person wants something a little different, and we try to give them that. We don’t have a fancy office or anything. Just a spot in the market where people know they can find us. It’s hard work on the back and neck, but we’re used to it. We keep our supplies organized in some old plastic bins under the table.
