Jassal Art Gallery

The gallery is situated right at the Ghumar Mandi Chowk in the Civil Lines area. It’s a very busy intersection, so there is always the sound of traffic and people outside our door. We’ve been in this spot for a good while. The space inside is mostly open so that there is plenty of room for the art pieces we have on display. We try to keep the walls clean so the focus stays on the frames, but in a dusty city like this, it’s a constant battle. People often wander in while they’re waiting for a bus or just walking through Civil Lines. We don’t mind if they just want to look around and not buy anything. The lighting can be a bit tricky depending on the time of day, as the sun comes in quite strong through the front windows in the afternoon. We have a few benches where people can sit if they want to stay a while. It’s not a very formal place. We dress casually and usually have the radio playing softly in the background. Working at the Chowk means we see a lot of the local life passing by every single hour. It’s a good location for a gallery because so many different kinds of people pass through this part of town every day. We like seeing the various reactions people have to the work we show.
