Down in Machhiwara Vadgaon Budruk, you’ll find our workshop for Chardi Kala Arts. It’s a lived-in space where we do all our painting and design work. We don't have a fancy showroom. Instead, we have tables covered in sketches and jars full of brushes that haven't been cleaned in a day or two. The floor is usually covered in wood shavings or scraps of paper. We work on various projects, from small signs to larger pieces that take up the whole floor. The weather affects how fast the paint dries, so we’re always checking the sky. It’s a quiet enough area, which helps when you’re trying to focus on a tricky detail. We aren't a big corporation with departments. It's just us doing the work by hand. Sometimes we stay late when a project is nearly finished. We drink a lot of tea to stay awake. People from the neighborhood drop by just to see what we're working on. We don't mind the company, as long as they don't step on the wet paint. It’s a simple life here in Vadgaon Budruk. We just keep making things and hope people like what they see. There isn't much more to it than that. No big promises, just honest work with our hands every single day. The shop sign is a bit faded, but it shows we’ve been here a long time and still enjoy the craft.
