Shavez Zari Wala

If you go behind the Dargah on Hazrat Abbas Road, you’ll find Shavez Zari Wala at No. 390 / 108. This is where we do all our work with zari and embroidery. It’s a traditional kind of setup. We don't have fancy lights or a big showroom. It’s mostly just frames, needles, and a lot of thread. The air usually smells like fabric and the tea we brew in the afternoons. We spend hours bent over the cloth, making sure the patterns come out right. It’s detailed work and it’s hard on the eyes, but it’s what we’ve always done. People come to us when they need something specific for a wedding or a special outfit. We don’t have a big marketing plan. Most of our work comes from people just knowing we are here behind the Dargah. It’s a busy street, and there’s always noise from the traffic and the people passing by, but inside the shop, we try to keep it steady. We focus on the stitches. We aren’t a big factory; it’s a small place where the hands do all the heavy lifting. Sometimes we run out of a certain color of thread and have to go hunting for it, but that’s just part of the day. We take pride in the fact that we still do things the old way, piece by piece, right here on Hazrat Abbas Road with our own tools.
