Tyagi Classes is tucked away at C 4941 in Rajaji Puram. It’s basically a part of the local community here in Lucknow. This place got going because we saw that students in the area had to travel too far just to get some extra help. The setup is quite modest. We use a couple of rooms that are filled with desks and posters of math formulas or grammar rules. It’s not a silent library atmosphere; there is usually a lot of discussion going on. We find that students learn better when they can actually talk about what’s on the page. Since we are in a residential block, it’s mostly quiet outside, which helps everyone stay focused. We don't have a big marketing budget or anything like that. Most of our students come to us because their older siblings came here years ago. It’s a bit of a tradition for some families in the area. We handle the daily teaching ourselves and keep track of everyone's progress on simple paper files. Sometimes the tea runs out or the power flickers, but we just keep going. It’s a very grounded way of working. We don't try to act like a big institution. We’re just local people teaching local kids in Rajaji Puram. That’s the long and short of it, really. No fuss, just a lot of pens and paper every day. We hope to stay here for many more years.
