Shubham General Store

Shubham General Store is located at 544/904 on Byura Hussain Road in the Balaganj area. We are right near the Mari Mata Mandir in Chankaypuri, so we hear the temple music and bells all day long. Lucknow is a place that moves at its own pace, and our shop is no different. We spend the early hours cleaning the front and arranging the displays of biscuits and chips. The shop address is a bit of a mouthful, but people find us easily enough because of the landmark. It gets very crowded on festival days when people are going to the mandir. We keep a lot of daily necessities stocked up on the shelves. The wooden counter is worn down in the middle from years of sliding bags across it. Sometimes we have a little trouble with the electricity, so we keep some candles handy just in case. The neighborhood kids often hang around outside after school. We spend a lot of time just chatting with the regular customers about the weather or the local news. It’s a lot of repetitive work, like restocking the fridge and sweeping out the dirt that blows in from the road. We don't have a big team, just a couple of us doing what needs to be done to keep the place running. It’s a bit cluttered and messy sometimes, but it’s our place and we know where everything is. We usually finish up late and then head home.
