Talkatora Road is a busy place, and we are right here at number 24. Most people know us because we are quite close to the Hanuman Mandir. You can often hear the sounds from the temple while we are working inside. It’s a simple setup we’ve got here. We open up early, usually around the time the first few people are heading out for work. The chairs are old but comfortable enough for a quick haircut or a shave. We keep the newspapers on the small table for anyone waiting, though these days most people just look at their phones. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re more focused on the work at hand. Lucknow can be a bit noisy with the traffic on this road, but inside it’s just the sound of scissors and the radio playing softly in the corner. We get a mix of young guys and the older uncles who have been living in this part of town for decades. It’s nice to see familiar faces every couple of weeks. We don't have a big team, just a couple of us who know how to handle the shears and the razors. When the power goes out, we just open the door to let the light in and keep going. It’s a basic business, nothing more and nothing less. We’ve been at this address for years and people know where to find us.
