Pwan Beauty Parlour

Pwan Beauty Parlour is located on Aishbagh Road in Lucknow. It’s a very old part of the city and the street is always moving with people and rickshaws. The shop itself is quite small and tucked between a grocery store and a tailor shop. We have been here for a long time, so most of the neighbors know us well. It’s a simple setup with a couple of chairs and some basic equipment for hair and skin work. We don't have any of those expensive lights or fancy decorations. The walls are a simple cream color and we have a few posters of different hairstyles. I work here with my cousin and we take turns handling the customers. We do a lot of threading and basic waxing for the ladies who live in the nearby blocks. In the summer, the heat in Lucknow is very strong, so we have a large desert cooler that we keep filled with water. It makes a lot of noise but it’s better than sitting in the heat. We don't really have a set schedule for appointments. People just walk in when they have some free time. We usually offer them a glass of water or some tea if they have to wait. We use the standard brands of creams and lotions that you find in the local wholesale market. It’s not a glamorous job but we enjoy talking to the people who come in every month.
