Navdurga Beauty Parlour is right in the heart of the Chowk area in Lucknow. We are situated very close to the Badikali Ji Mandir, which is a place everyone in this neighborhood knows well. Living and working in the 226003 zip code means being part of a very old and busy part of the city. The streets can be narrow and crowded, but that’s just the charm of the Chowk. Our shop is a modest one. We have our chairs, our mirrors, and the usual supplies you’d expect to find in a local parlour. It’s mostly women from the surrounding houses who come in to get things done. We talk about family, the markets, and whatever else is happening in Lucknow that day. It’s a small space, so it feels quite cozy when there are a few people inside. We don’t have any big corporate rules or anything like that. We just treat people like neighbors because they usually are. The smell of incense from the temple sometimes drifts over, which is quite nice. We open early and stay until the work is finished. It’s a simple life here. We focus on the thread, the wax, and the hair. Nothing complicated, just the daily grind of a small business in a historic part of town. We’ve been here for a good while and plan to stay. Most afternoons the tea man comes by and we take a quick break.
