Meena Hair Dresser

If you go down Hardoi Road in Lucknow, you will find us near the Dubagga and Madiyawan area. Meena Hair Dresser has been around this part of the city for quite a while now. It’s a straightforward shop for men who need a haircut or a clean shave before they go to work. We start early because a lot of workers pass by this way and want to look neat. The chairs are old but they are comfortable enough for fifteen minutes. We don’t have any air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that keep the air moving during the Lucknow heat. It can get dusty being so close to the main road but we try to sweep the floor every hour or so. Most of our customers are locals who live within walking distance. They come in, say hello, get their hair cut, and head out. There isn’t much talk about fashion or trends here, just whatever looks decent and keeps the hair out of your eyes. Sometimes we get a bit of a rush on festival days and the shop feels very small then. We have a small mirror on the side where we keep the combs and scissors. It is just a basic place for a basic need. We like being part of the community here and seeing the same faces every month.
