Aar Kay Chikan Emporium

Aar Kay Chikan Emporium is over at No. 17 in the Karbali Complex on Kotwali Road. It’s a busy spot. The complex is full of small shops selling all sorts of things. We focus on chikan work. It’s a lot of white-on-white embroidery, but we have colors too. We spend our days checking the fine stitches and making sure the fabric is clean. The shop is small and we have to use every inch of space. We have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. It can get a bit crowded when we have a lot of new stock. Kotwali Road is loud and there is always a lot of shouting and horns. We are used to the noise. We sit on cushions on the floor while we go through the pieces. It’s more comfortable that way for the kind of work we do. We don't have any promotional posters or anything. The work speaks for itself. People come to Karbali Complex because they know what they are looking for. We don't have a big corporate office. It’s just this one room where we do everything. We drink tea from the stall next door and talk about the work that needs to be finished. It’s a steady routine. We’ve been at No. 17 for a long time. It’s just how we live and work every day.
