G S India Welfare Foundation

Our office is in Sunder Nagar, right in the Alambagh area of Lucknow. It’s house number 558/26. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze in the lane, especially if someone parks a scooter in the wrong spot. G S India Welfare Foundation has been running from this house for a bit. The front room is where we do most of the work. We have a couple of metal chairs that squeak whenever you sit down. The walls have a few old calendars hanging up. Alambagh is always noisy with the traffic and the markets nearby, but it's convenient for people to find us. We don’t have a receptionist or anything. Usually, one of us just hears the gate click and goes out to see who it is. The tea here is okay, though the milkman sometimes comes late. We spend a lot of time just talking to folks who walk in off the street. It’s not a shiny corporate office with glass walls. It’s just a regular brick house that we use for our daily tasks. The ceiling fan wobbles a little on high speed. We’ve been meaning to get it fixed but never seem to find the time. We have a small stack of ledgers on the desk. Everything is done by hand mostly. It’s simple, but it works for what we need.
