M. J. Zari Wala

At M. J. Zari Wala, we spend our days working with thread and embroidery materials. Our shop is on Latouch Road, near G. B. Marg. It’s a traditional kind of business, the kind where you learn by doing it for years. The shop isn't very large, so it can get pretty full when we have a lot of stock delivered. We have spools of zari and other supplies stacked up almost to the ceiling sometimes. It’s a bit of a maze in here, but we know where everything is kept. People from around the area know us and stop by when they need supplies for their own projects. We don't do much advertising; word of mouth has always been enough for us. The street outside is usually full of traffic and people walking by, so there's always something to look at if we take a break. We try to be helpful when someone comes in looking for a specific shade or type of thread, even if it takes a bit of digging through the bins. It’s a steady pace of work. We aren't trying to change the world, just keeping the traditions of our craft going. The lights in here could be brighter, and the floor is a bit uneven, but it’s home to us and we like the work we do. Most evenings we just tidy up the spools and get ready for whoever might come in tomorrow morning.
